How to have curly hair like Orlando Bloom?

I got semi curly hair, alot like Mika's, but I'm trying to grow it long, like Orlando Blooms. I've been growing it for a bout 9 months now, but it seems to puff more than anything else. The only solution I got so far that kinda works, was to shave the sides, like Gavin Rossdale, but like I said, I want it long and just keep on puffing. Any ideas what hair product he might use or so?
